Whether or not you will be doing activities in your preschool program to celebrate Easter, spring time is a good time to learn about Rabbits. Here are some ideas and resources to have some hopping good fun.
I'm a Little Bunny (Tune: I'm a Little Teapot)
I'm a little bunny, my name is Joe. (hold up two fingers)
I hop fast and I hop slow. (hop fingers around fast and slow)
Whenever I get sleepy, my ears droop low, (bend fingers down)
But after my nap, up they go! (hold fingers straight up)
Baby bunny dressed in blue. (hold up two fingers like bunny ears)
Met another; then there were two. (hold up two fingers on both hands)
Bouncy bunnies to the left. (move fingers to left)
Bouncy bunnies to the right. (move fingers to right)
Bouncy bunnies get in bed. (put head on hands like sleeping)
Off to bed, you sleepy heads. (pretend to sleep)
See the Bunny (Tune: Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush)
See how the bunny hops along, hops along, hops along, (children crouch and hop)
See how the bunny hops along,
On this (spring, Easter) morning.
This is the way he wiggles his nose... (children take their fingers to wiggle their noses)
See how he jiggles his cotton tail... (children put one hand behind them and wiggle it)
Five Baby Bunnies
Five baby bunnies hopping out to play,
Hopping in the forest on Easter Day.
The first baby bunny carried his new cane,
He twirled it as he came hopping down the lane.
The second baby bunny came to the river's brink,
Tasted the cool water and took a long, long drink.
The third baby bunny tied her bonnet so new,
Under her chin, a bow of pink, white, and blue.
The fourth baby bunny skipped down the shady lane,
He opened his umbrella just in case of rain
The fifth baby bunny said, "Look what I see!"
Lots and lots of colored eggs hiding near the tree!"
On a piece of white construction paper, trace the outline of a foot with the sock on. Cut out 2 long ears pink paper. Glue the ear shapes on the the heel part.Glue a cotton ball on the toe part and decorate with felt, markers, paint, and even pipe cleaners for whiskers.
Hand Print Bunnies
Trace the hand outline onto constuction paper and cut out the shape. Cut off, or bend down the thumb, pinky and middle finger. Decorate your Easter bunny as desired.
Toilet Paper Rabbit
Give children a toilet paper tube, cotton balls, construction paper and googly eyes. Have them glue cotton balls on toilet paper tube and add paper ears, feet, googly eyes, etc. to create their unique rabbit.
Give children a variety of Marshmellow Bunny Peeps and have them sort by color and make patterns with them.
Bunny Taste Test Graphing
Have children try a piece of each type of food that rabbits like: carrots, lettuce, radish, cabbage, etc. Graph results of which vegetable children liked best.
Cotton Ball Sensory Table
Place a variety of cotton balls in the sensory table to allow children to feel the softness like rabbits' soft fur.
A child is chosen to be "It". Everyone hops like a bunny trying to keep from getting tagged by the child that's "It".
Do the Bunny Hop!
Bunny, Bunny, Where's Your Egg
Like "Doggie, Doggie, Where's Your Bone...Have all children sit in circle, while one child closes eyes away from the circle. Give one child a plastic egg and have all children pretend to hold egg behind their backs. All the children chant: "Easter Bunny, Easter Bunny, Where's Your Egg? Somebody stole it from your home. Guess who?" and child gets three guesses to figure out who has the egg.
For each bunny you need two refridgerator biscuits. Cut the first one into thirds, use the two end pieces as ears to attach to the other biscuit. Use raisins for the eyes, red candy for the nose and licorice for the whiskers. Bake as directed.
Bunny in a Garden
Used canned pear halves. Slice two strips from one half for the ears. Place a complete pear half face down on a bed of lettuce. Shred carrots for whiskers. Decorate as you wish.
Veggies and Dip
Give children carrots, and other veggies that rabbits might eat, and dip.
