[19:16] Kelly: I think that sometimes teacher assistants have
lower expectations for the children than a teacher does?
[
[19:16] mimi: keeping them from getting to comfortable. getting
lazy
[19:17] Susan: staff being on time and and realizing that this is
an important job and cell phones are a big challenge lately for
me
[19:18] Julie Bartkus: Staff being lazy, lower expectations and
being on time is what I'm hearing.
[19:18] Julie Bartkus: These are tough challenges.
[19:18] Julie Bartkus: However they can be
solved.
[19:18] mimi: cell phones last week i said i would start writing

[19:27] Julie Bartkus: Many leaders lose their vision or never
really establish one that they are passionate about.
[19:28] Julie Bartkus: When you don't have a vision -there are no
worthwhile goals that can be set and achieved.
[
[
[
[19:28] Susan: some just come to work to get a paycheck
[19:28] Kelly: but we often do it alone
[19:29] mimi: directors set the tone of the day by how they come
in the morning and greet the staff
[19:29] Julie Bartkus: Many leaders get lost in the daily stress
and that becomes the vision just to make it through another
stressful day.

[
[19:33] Kelly: whats hard where i am is that we have over 40
classrooms scattered over the county- i can go months without
seeing a co worker in a another classroom
[19:34] Heather: I only have 15 staff
[19:34] mimi: we have a jar with 2 different color bean., one for
positive and one for negative. In a month we are going to look in
the jar and see the majority of attitudes in our center
[

[19:35] Kelly: so i can go weeks without seeing a supervisor as well

my point is?

[19:49] Julie Bartkus: My email is julie@lcforcc.com.

19:50] Julie Bartkus: So often we look for
things outside of ourself to motivate our staff when I guarantee
you it all starts with you.
[19:50] Joni: welcome

[19:51] Margie: ok i change my name
[19:51] Jamielthomas: almost a popularity contest
[19:52] Joni: welcome Jamiel and Margie
[19:52] mimi: come in the morning and greet the staff with a
great smile and attitidie
[19:52] Jamielthomas: I want drama free work our goal is to take
care of these children not worry about what the other classroom
is doing or not doing
[19:52] Jamielthomas: thanks Joni
[19:52] Julie Bartkus: Great, Mimi.
[
[
[
[
[19:54] Margie: so i miss the chat?
[19:54] Jamielthomas: finding something nice and pleasant and
uplifting to coworker too will help create a more positive
atmosphere too
[19:54] Susan: I have to give it some thought I do a lot for the
staff
[19:54] Julie Bartkus: The idea here is to model what behaviors
you what to see in your staff BEFORE you tell them that they need
to be....Does that make sense?
[19:54] Joni: since what I want, starts with me, I will be
reliable
and
remind them of our long term goals and my passion
[19:55] mimi: YES
[19:55] Kelly: i like that joni
[19:55] Joni: Margie, I will post anything you missed
[19:55] Julie Bartkus: It's not about what you do for the staff.
It starts out with what you model for them. Your thoughts,
attitudes, and actions.
[19:55] Kelly: i keep reiterating why i do what i do , i
sound like a broken record
[19:56] Susan: at times I like to put motivational quotes in the
staff lounge maybe I will put a new one in tomorrow
[19:56] Jamielthomas: if you come in to work with a good attitude
and good work ethic and lead by example hopefully others will
follow
[19:56] Margie: offer support when needed.. is something that I
did for my staff when I was the director.. support such as giving
them a break when I see that it was needed..
[
[
[
[
[
[
[
[19:57] Jamielthomas: so if I go in knowing its going to be a
good week and I want to the best that I can and make it a happy
fun stress free place of work I have to create that myself so
others will follow suite
[19:57] Kelly: educating support staff is important
[19:57] Jamielthomas: make sure to show your appreciation to your
staff
[19:58] mimi: support their ideas and initiative
[19:58] Joni: I want them to WANT to do what moves the company
forward, internal motivation beyond the paycheck
[19:58] Jamielthomas: they work long days and usually have to
handle tough situations letting them know they are great workers
and teachers and building them up and motivating them to be
better
[19:58] Kelly: i like that jamiel and i agree with you
[19:58] mimi: especially if they are thinking outside the box
[19:58] Jamielthomas: I want to work with people who are happy
and pleasant know they are respected and appreciated
[19:58] Margie: Staff motivation is showing and applying the
support needed to your staff whatever is needed.. caring for
their needs as well as for your center.
[19:59] Kelly: it makes my job easier when i am appreciated and respected
[
[
[19:59] Susan: I want them to be motivated in being on time and
showing that they want to be there and are happy to be there
[19:59] Susan: attending the staff meetings
[20:00] Jamielthomas: leaving encouraging notes for teachers and
staff in your break room too has worked for us
[20:00] mimi: as we have all the wants from the staff, again, it
is obvious how we need to be the role model
[20:00] Susan: attending the needed trainings avoiding the gossip
stopping the it's not my job
[20:00] Julie Bartkus: Good. Staff motivation consists of 2
things. 1) Building a strong leadership foundation and 2) A
series of systems to help you open line of communication and
challenge your team.
[20:00] Joni: welcome guest
[20:00] Jamielthomas: we set up a board with die cut hearts and
when we experienced something above and beyond from our staff we
wrote a note thanking them about how much it meant and how we
appreciate them
[20:01] Jamielthomas: gossip and rumors are a huge killer in our
work place
[20:01] Julie Bartkus: True or false. Ready?
